EMPOWERING WOMEN - ROTARIANS MEET TO SUPPORT THE MENSTRUAL HYGIENE NEEDS OF PERIOD POVERTY GROUP

22 Jan 2022

To relief the financial burden especially the targeted adolescent from B40 families impacted by Covid-19, Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City (RCKUC) and Rotary Club of Sri Kenyalang (RCSK) collaborate with Ku One Sdn Bhd had distributed 426 packs of sanitary pads to 26 girls from SJK(C) Sungai Menyan and 400 girls from SMK Balai Ringin at KM93, Jalan Kuching-Serian.

The handover to the representatives of both schools is witnessed by Assistant Governor of District 3310, Larry Ong, RCKUC’s President, Chew Teik Seng, members and volunteers from both Clubs. The handover is jointly funded by District 3310 Covid-19 Response Team.

Period poverty is defined as a menstruating person’s in-access to safe and hygienic use of sanitary menstrual goods.

“It seems that not many aid givers are focusing on the need for sanitary pads, and as a result, there is a gap to be filled. We have the means and the support to fill that gap. This is an on-going project for three years under Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City” said Rotarian Esther Hu, the Project Organizing Chairperson.

Additional food aids also being distributed to the parents of the 26 girls from SJK (C) Sungai Menyan. “While the sanitary pads donated will last a girl for 3 months, we hope the food stuff will further lighten the parents’ burden”. Added CP Hajjah Raja Noor Akmar Bt Raja Kamil of RCSK.

“I truly appreciate all donors and volunteers to make this a possible action. Together we serve to change lives” – Chew Teik Seng.
